Network marketing is viewed by many as a business for suckers. I have heard people call us con-artists and thieves who cheat hard working folks out of their hard earned money and rob them of their dreams. People can be very skeptical about anything network marketers say or do.

I believe this has happened mainly because of people simply not being honest with their prospects and associates. You must address their skepticism immediately and don’t avoid it. I believe it’s the strongest emotion people have in this industry.

Ask questions, address issues and acknowledge their feelings and concerns. Many people who start a home-based business hear crazy claims of enormous success without an emphasis on how hard the work will be. Be honest with them about the failure rate in MLM, but also tell them why it is that way (lack of skills, poor marketing, lack of committment, no time, lack of funds).

Our goal is to increase the believabilityof the opportunity. People like and respect honest and realistic people. When people believe that you are on their side and not out to make a quick $ off of them they will be more open to working with you.

I’m not saying to not promote the financial possibilities of you opportunity. I am saying to be upfront about the challlenges they will face as a multi-level marketer and share with them the resources and solutions that are in place to assist them on their journey to home-based business success.
