Why did I get into Network Marketing?

Before I go any further, let me explain how this all started. I got into network marketing as sort of a fluke. I had never joined an MLM before and new very little, if anything, about the industry. I had never even heard the terms “network marketing”,  ”multi-level marketing”, or even the infamous and nasty “pyramid scheme” before. This was probably to my advantage in that my view of the industry was quite neutral.

About 18 months ago, I was approaching my college graduation (at a very “mature” age for a student) and was contemplating my future. My decision to return to college occured at the perfect time in my life. I was mature, driven, motivated and focused. I had done very well, earning my B.A. in communication, graduating with top honors.

What was next? A new job? A career? A career in what? Communication? Hmm…. It quickly occured to me that I didn’t want a job. I hadn’t worked for anyone in 3 years and had no desire to do so again. Now you may be asking “What about that degree I worked so hard for?” “Why did I even bother?” Well, the reason was more for personal gain that professional. For the first time in my life I wanted to finish something that I started.  I did and went out on top!

I did not want a job but I wanted to earn a lot of money and be free.  How would I do that? Well, I wanted to own a business. So, I began to write down exactly what I wanted in a business. Here’s what I came up with.

The ability to change the lives of an unlimited number of people

Time freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted

Financial Freedom

Provide a product or service that was unique and in demand

The freedom to operate my business anywhere in the country and/or the world

No limit to the amount of income I could earn

To have fun

To be challenged

Be in an environment that helps me to become a better person

Where and how in the world would I ever find an business opportunity like that?! Was I just straight crazy or what?  How long will it take me to come up with an idea that would work? Even if I knew, where would I get the money for the start up costs? Who would help me?  What if I failed? I knew that I really wanted all these things and I prayed about it. Little did I know that my prayers were about to be answered sooner than expected. And the answer was right in front of me.

Why did I start this blog?

Who am I and why am I doing this?

I am a frustrated network marketer that knew there had to be a better way to create success in Multi-Level Marketing/Home Based Businesses other than simply using and doing “the system”.

I have been involved in my business for almost two years. I love my company, our founder, our product, and the power we have to change lives. However, what I found was that while some lives were changing for the better as a result of  our business, mine was not, at least not financially. I was taught the “s.y.s.t.e.m.” (save yourself time energy and money) by my upline.  I attended weekly meetings, specialized trainings, national and regional events, committed to personal development, and developed a passion for our product. That’s all wonderful but the key to success we’re told is “ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY, ACTIVITY!” Not having much success? “ACTIVITY!” Frustrated? “MORE ACTIVITY!” Spending more money than you’re making! “GOTTA DO MORE ACTIVITY!” Echoed my upline.

It was this ACTIVITY that I had a major issue with. I soon realized that the very activities that we are encouraged to engage in to create success are the same activities that led to almost every failed and failing associates demise. I knew it was true but couldn’t prove it. Why when there were so many success stories in my company that were the result of such “persistent and consistent” activity. Or were they?

I knew there had to be a better way to achieve success in multi-level marketing. I knew there was a secret, it was out there, someone had it and was sharing it. However, I had no idea what it could possibly be or where, when, or if I’d ever find it. However, I didn’t quit my business. Most people would have never stuck it out as long as I have. I’ve spent much more than I’ve made, encountered more rejection than I care to even remember, and have had every single associate in my downline quit, except one, and he’s my dad.

Several months ago, a fellow network marketer came to me with some very interesting information…
